Will’s family has composed the following obituary for him:

On Monday, January 11, 2021, Will Lawrence, a loving husband and father of two daughters, passed away at age 82. Will “Homer Willis Lawrence Jr.” was born on June 3, 1938, in Erie, Pennsylvania to Homer and Helen (Neiderer) Lawrence. Will was proceeded in death by his father, Homer, his mother Helen, and his sisters Barbara-Jean and Penny. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Beverly Erwin, and his two daughters and their spouses, Jennifer and Stephen Woerner, Patricia and Scott Wagner, and two brothers David and Jim along with his wife Gloria, and grandchildren Alex, Liliana, Dustin, Tyler, Victoria, Zachary and Ryan, and great-grandchildren Stephen, Alexis, Matthew, and Kyran, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Will served proudly in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic. A year after his honorable discharge in 1959, Will met and married his wife of sixty years, after sweeping her off her feet with their romantic first blind date, to the car races in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.

During the Vietnam War, Will was employed by Boeing Aircraft Company, where as a civilian he worked as a helicopter mechanic on a military base in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, Will and Beverly began their family of two daughters. Will worked for the Lower Moreland Township Public Works Department as the Superintendent for thirty-seven years. He always said, “It was like family and you never work a day in your life, when you love what you do”. Will and his frequently heard whistling, as he worked, retired in 2008.

Will loved the outdoors, from boating with his young family, with the boat appropriately named “Empty Pockets”, to later camping with the family, including the in-laws Doris and Sam. He also enjoyed hunting from to time when he was a young boy in Erie and also enjoyed passing on his passion to the younger generation. Will never lost his love of cars and spent many hours working on friends and family members' cars, and loved his car shows. Who could forget his advice, "when you heard a noise, turn up the radio," and hey, it always worked. He was a devoted history buff and loved aircraft museums and historic sites. After retiring, Will and Beverly loved to take road trips, traveling all over the United States. Will was happy anywhere with his crossword puzzle books at the ready.

A celebration of Will’s life will be planned later, due to COVID-19 restrictions. We would like to invite everyone to visit Will’s Facebook page as a Memorial (@Will Lawrence) to share memories, stories and photos.
