The family has composed the following obituary:

Luisa Mezzardri Cooper, 84, of Willow Grove, PA passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 23, 2021.

Luisa was born on April 19, 1936 to Donte and Maria Mezzardri in Rome, Italy. She has one younger sister, Luciana, with whom she grew up in the beautiful city of Rome.Luisa took much pride in living in such a beautiful and historic city and often shared wonderful stories of her life there with her parents, sister, and Aunt Clara, who was a second mother to her.

Luisa met Jay Jenkins Cooper in Rome, and they married in 1961. With their union, Luisa gladly embraced Sharon, our oldest sister. Soon after they married, our parents began a life of travel together. Our family grew in Spain, where Jenkins Jr and Henry were born, and where Jenkins and Luisa became fostered parents to Christa. Janice and Barbra followed in Egypt a few years later, and last came Wede, who was born in Liberia.

Luisa’s strong foundation in Catholicism and family were what made her an exceptional wife and mother. She dedicated her life to raising her children while fearlessly moving the family to various countries while our father worked in the Liberian foreign service. After leaving her Italian family, Luisa embraced and was embraced warmly by our father’s Liberian family, which is where our family settled in 1979.

Luisa was an avid reader and lover of history. She was a skilled conversationalist and could talk to anyone and engage them with interest and respect. Her legacy was her fearless determination. By chosing to marry Jenkins, she chose to leave all that was familiar to her and commit herself to person from a completely different culture and continent. All along this expectional journey, Luisa formed meaningful friendships with so many people. As a result, over the past days since her passing, we have spoken to countless family and friends, who have recounted stories, conversations and shared how much she meant to them. This is a great loss to us, and we will miss her dearly.

Luisa was predeceased by her father and her mother, husband Jay Jenkins Sr., son Henry and 2 grandsons, Omar and Kobe. She is survived by her siblings, Luciana and Harris, her children Sharon, Jay Jenkins, Christa, Janice, Barbra and Wede and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
