Theresa Morris Peeler, 69, passed away on April 19, 2021 of COVID 19 at the Abington-Lansdale Hospital. Theresa and her husband, Wayne Peeler lived in New Hope, PA.
Theresa was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Rose Emma Morris and the late Arthur Morris on September 8, 1951. She attended Peabody High School. After spending a year at the University of Pittsburgh, she and her husband relocated to Philadelphia, PA.
The highlight of her Pitt experience was traveling to East Africa with several students and their Swahili teacher. They spent time in Tanzania at the University of Dar es Salaam. The trip home included stops in London, Rome and Cairo. These experiences inspired her and gave her a love of art and travel.
Theresa finished her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University in New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history. She went on to graduate from the Beasley School of Law at Temple University. She passed the bar in June 1992 and practiced law in the Philadelphia area. Terry served on many boards of directors for non-profit organizations such as the Executive Committee of the Friends of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) and the Paul Robeson Cultural Center. Over the years, she has serviced a diverse clientele, such as a Russian Theatre Group; a Chinese Opera Company; and for four year she was the chairperson of the Sports, Entertainment and Art Law Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
In September 2006 Terry and her husband traveled to China with a legal delegation working on copyright, patent and intellectual property issues. The trip included stops in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong and tourist locations including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall.
Terry was dedicated to her family. Among the many who cherish her, she leaves her husband of 49 years, Wayne Peeler; her daughter Tamiya Robles, and two granddaughters, Shariya and Layla. She is also survived by her mother, Rose Wallace, her sisters, Elizabeth Fountain, Myrna Grant, Cathy Horne, Kim Wilson and Deneen Joyner and her brother Arthur Roebuck.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the near future. Details will be provided when available.
