CELEBRATION OF LIFE for Evelyn E. Jones
Sunrise: October 28th, 1949 – Sunset: May 31st, 2021

Evelyn was born on October 28th, 1949, to the late Griffin and Carrie Sampson. Evelyn was educated in the Philadelphia School District. She later met and married, Kenneth Jones in the summer of 1968. The newly married couple did not hesitate to jump in and help with Evelyn’s younger siblings. Evelyn was one of 10 children born to Griffin and Carrie, being the oldest of only 2 girls in the bunch landed Evelyn the title of second mother to her younger siblings.
Evelyn accepted the lord as her lord and savior at the age of thirty-five. Evelyn’s passion to help others led her to healthcare, she worked as a Certified nursing assistant in various area nursing homes from 1984 to 1994. Evelyn worked as a clerk for City Year in a Community Health Center from 2000 to 2004. Evelyn really enjoyed working with and helping the less fortunate especially those whose lives were a bit more challenging.
Evelyn and Kenny were blessed with 2 children through their union Kenneth Jones II and Kim Jones. Evelyn was not only intelligent she was a strong believer in common sense and did not hesitate to ensure that her loved ones had it. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, taking care of her grandchildren, playing cards and being the life of the party. Her motherly love did not stop with her own children, but she selflessly & lovingly embraced many other children, as if they were her own. Evelyn was known for being blunt and speaking her mind, she was a protector at all costs no matter whether woman or man she did not backdown.
Evelyn’s lengthy battle with dementia ended after 71 long well lived years, she went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 31st. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Donald, Griffin Jr., Theodore, Morris (Randy) and Keith. As well as her great grandson David. Left to cherish her memory are her husband: Kenneth Jones, children: Kenneth (Jay) and Kim Jones, 6 grandchildren Ashley, Nizhae, Kire, Nysear, Sanaa and Saadiq, 3 great grands Jamire, Eriana and Noah, 4 siblings: William, Sandra, Gerald and Darrell, and a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial gathering on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Majestic Hall, 800 West Olney Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19120.
