The following obituary was composed by Marjorie’s family:

Marjorie Deloris Henry, (nee Curtis), was born in Coopers Hill, Saint Andrew, Kingston, Jamaica, on November 21, 1941, to William and Catherine Curtis. She was the first of eight children. One brother, Edsel Curtis, and one sister, Doreen Stewart, preceded her in death. She was affectionately known by many names: Mom, Mama, Grandma, Mom-Mom, Marge, Madge, and Madgie. She was well loved by her children, siblings, relatives, and friends.

Marjorie was raised in a Catholic household instilled with love and values. She attended Rock Hall Age School and then Xavier High School, where she resided with her grandmother. After high school, she worked at Merlgrove High School in the cafeteria.

She migrated to the United States during July of 1971 to work at a Catholic rectory in Fairless Hill, PA.

In 1972, she married Winston Henry who preceded her in death in 1998.
She was employed at various places such as Chesheim Dental Associates, Cheltenham Rehabilitation Hospital, and Chestnut Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, where she retired. She gained many friends along the way.

She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Throughout her years, she loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She loved planting vegetables and flowers. Her favorite flowers were orchids and calla lilies. She generously graced family and friends with plant clippings to place in their homes and yards. She loved her decades of watching her favorite soap opera, General Hospital. If you wanted to contact her by phone during the weekdays, you knew not to call her between 3PM-4PM. That was General Hospital time.

She was an active member of the St. Raymond’s congregation. Volunteering and helping whenever and wherever she could.

Through her health challenges, Marjorie remained very strong…mentally, emotionally, and physically. This may be how some affectionately gave her the nickname “Ironside”. Through it all, she was still able to smile and laugh through her pain.

On Monday, March 7, 2022, God gave Marjorie her wings to fly home to join her family and friends who preceded her.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children: Marcia (Michael) Brooks, Mark Voce, Carl (Sasha) Voce, Jascinthe Henry, and Melissa Henry; step-children: Yvonne Henry, Arlene Laing, Sandra Ibeawuchi, and Glendon Henry; her grandchildren: Anthony (Lizbeth Colon) Hopwood, Michael (Adriana) Brooks, Shaquille Brooks, Samaria (Alex) Nixon, Angelique Voce, Savannah Voce, Devon Henry, Adin Ford, and Pharaoh Lewis; her great-grandchildren: Amiyah Hopwood, Aaliyah Carswell, SaRyha Nixon, Jordyn Isaac, and Enzo Brooks; siblings: Murita (Vincent) Edwards, Conrad Curtis, Beverly Curtis, Milton (Tracey) Curtis, and Pamela (Milton) Burke; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Monday, March 14, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and Funeral Mass from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at St. Raymond Of Penafort Church, 1350 Vernon Road, Philadelphia, PA 19150. Her graveside service followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Cheltenham, PA 19038. Repast will take place at 1:00 PM at Deluxe Event Hall, 1834-1836 W Cheltenham Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19126
