The following obituary was written by Joan’s family.

Joan G. Leslie of Holland, PA died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 21, 2024. She was 91 years old.

Joan, wife of Robert J. Leslie (Deceased) of Clearwater, FL; mother to Michael B. Leslie of Kansas City, MO; David G. Leslie (Deceased) of Philadelphia, PA; Sean R. Leslie and Frances Leslie of Cinnaminson, NJ. She is also survived by her twin sister, Joyce G. Hamblin of Langhorne, PA; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. All of whom she loved dearly.

Joan was born in Providence, RI on January 15, 1933, along with her identical twin sister, Joyce, to Natalie Ekeblad and Gordon Gibson of Harmony, RI. The younger of the two, she and her sister, would go on to do great things together, but Joan, on her own, would make her mark on this world having an ambitious, rewarding, and colorful life spanning over nine decades.

In rural Rhode Island, she attended Glocester Grammar School and Burrillville High School graduating with honors and then on to The University of Rhode Island where she attained her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Dietetics. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the Army splitting her dietetic internships at Walter Reed Hospital in Maryland and the William Beaumont Medical Center in El Paso, TX. She finished her career with the Armed Forces as a First Lieutenant, working both in the Army and Navy.

Joan would work as a Registered Dietitian throughout her career in New Jersey, Iowa, and Pennsylvania, most recently finishing her work-life at The Bucks County Department of Aging. She was there for over 20 years and worked well into her eighties.

And somehow along the way, she also worked as a high fashion model; purchasing agent for the Navy; a gift wrapper at Macy’s; a hostess at Restoration Hardware; an Election Poll Worker; a Pre-School Teacher, and a Massage Therapist. Her hobbies included: cooking, bargain-shopping, and travel. She was a good speller; loved convertibles and had strong affinities for pasta fagioli, hats, math, men, and Marshall’s.

But most of all she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend to so many. She will be missed.

A ceremony honoring her life was held at the Washington Crossing Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 with a reception at La Stalla in Newton immediately following. All were welcome.
