Mary Lousie Evans Bigham 93, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 9, 2024, after a 5-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Mary was born on June 14, 1931, to James and Addie Evans in Louisville, Jefferson County Georgia. During her formative years she traveled the migrant farm workers route worked with her family and attended school in various states. After graduating from Jefferson County high school for the colored in 1944, she went on to study nursing at the Belle Glade Vocational School.
After graduation, she landed her first job as a Licensed Practical Nurse for Belle Glade County Hospital, kicking off a 45-year career in nursing.

In 1951, she met Marshall Bigham, and they wed in 1952. Shortly after they wed, they moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had a childless marriage that ended in divorce around 1960.

A debilitating injury at the workplace in 1987 facilitated her retiring in 1989. During retirement, Mary enjoyed arts and crafts, she also spent time going to the racetrack. It was there where she met the “Love of her Life” Anthony Cirello. Mary and Tony, as we called him, were together 35 years, their favorite activities included: attending the racetrack, where they had a host of friends, watching their favorite TV shows and walking in their neighborhood.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jimmy Lee Evans, her husband Marshall Bigham, and her partner in life, Anthony Cirello. She is survived by her sisters and brother Letta Parrott (Lilbourn) Paulette Imani, Edna Cason, Sandrel Jones-Webster, Jerry Evans (Ann) Cousin William Evans, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 11:00 to 11:15 A.M. and funeral service from 11:15 to 11:50 A.M. at Ivy Hill Cemetery, 1201 Easton Road, Philadelphia, PA 19150.
