The following obituary was written by Adelaide’s family.
Adelaide R. (Hennessey) Gallo, 83, of Worcester passed away on The Assumption, Thursday August 15, 2024. She was born October 13, 1940 in Phoenixville, PA. She is the daughter of the late Edward Rollins Hennessey and Adelaide Reginia (Duffy) Hennessey. She had fond memories and countless stories of growing up in Phoenixville with her brother Edward, numerous cousins and friends. Adelaide’s family belonged to St. Mary’s church just blocks from her childhood home. She attended grade school in Philadelphia and would take the train to and from Phoenixville to do so. She graduated Bishop Kenrick High School class of 1958. She was blessed with green eyes, Irish charm, grace, humor, an amazing smile and a heart filled with overwhelming love.
Adelaide’s early career was a homemaker caring for her loving husband and raising five children. While her children were very young and attending school, she volunteered at Holy Saviour School and she assisted her brother with his printing press business in Phoenixville whenever needed. In the early 70’s Adelaide, her husband Ben and a few friends who shared a passion for tennis opened a tennis club in Worcester called Frog Hollow Tennis Club. Once the last of her children reached middle school, she pursued a career in real estate and enjoyed working with her oldest son Michael for some time. Additionally, she worked at the Montgomery Bar Association working on editing the Law Reporter for several years. Within a few years, her son Andrew would start a catering business which Adelaide would be involved full-time up until the time she suffered a stroke in 2012. Adelaide’s unconditional love and support for her family is beyond words.
Adelaide loved playing piano, singing at home and in church, playing games with her children, and scrabble with the neighbor Midge once the kids were asleep. She belonged to Worcester Racquet Club and played tennis in their league and tournaments. She enjoyed making crafts, pottery, birdfeeders, flower arrangements and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. More recently, she and her daughter Michele love their miniature dogs and spoiling those pups. Adelaide enjoyed vacationing with her family in Ocean City, Maryland and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Most of all she cherished time with her family regardless of what they were doing.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Baldasare (Ben) Gallo, her oldest son Michael (Joyce Zygmont) and her grandson-in-law Gustavo (Sophia). Adelaide is survived by her children Christopher (Lisa Fanizzi), Andrew (Nancy Owoc), Michele, and Ben Jr. (Cindy Bruno). She is grandmother to Corinne, Sophia, Kirsti, Gabriella, Michael, Andrew Jr., Alexa, Bella, Gianna, Cellini, Milani, Benny and Enzo. She is Great Grandmother to Valentina, Catlina, Brooks, Gustavo Jr., Cole and a new addition expected this December.
Relatives and friends were invited to attend her visitation from 8:30 AM to 10 AM and funeral Mass at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Holy Saviour Church, 407 East Main Street, Norristown, PA 19401.
