The following was composed by Flo’s son David.
Flo Willard (née Byrd), age 94, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Born on April 18, 1931, in Valley Crucis, North Carolina, Flo lived a long and full life marked by warmth, kindness, and a deep love for her family and the simple joys of everyday living.
Flo was the daughter of Benjamin Byrd and Rhoda Byrd (née Townsend). She was the youngest of nine children. She grew up surrounded by the beauty of the North Carolina mountains before moving north to Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Cheltenham High School. It was there that she began building a life rooted in care and connection—values that would define her for decades to come.
She shared many cherished years with her beloved husband, Robert Willard, who preceded her in death. Their bond was one of enduring love and mutual devotion. Flo’s family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with Robert, her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters who went before her.
Flo was a devoted mother to her son David Willard. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Emily Mines (née Willard) and Benjamin Willard, as well as her great-granddaughter, Madelyn Mines. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A woman of many passions, Flo found joy in gardening, cooking hearty meals for loved ones, shopping for little treasures, and spending time outdoors. But above all else, she treasured moments spent with family—whether gathered around the kitchen table or enjoying a sunny afternoon together.
Those who knew Flo remember her as caring, kind-hearted, funny, and warm—a woman who lived life the best way she knew how: with grace, humor, and an open heart.
May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her and serve as a reminder of a life beautifully lived.
