Mary Claire Mundy (née Biondi)
September 13, 1934 – August 6, 2025

Oh Mother Mary, how we will miss you.

Mary Claire Mundy, lifelong resident of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Lynn, and son-in-law, Gary, surrounded by many members of her family. She had been living there for most of this year while receiving the compassionate care of hospice, whose kindness and support the family will be forever grateful for. She was 90 years old.

Born to Michael Angelo Biondi and Mary Liberty (Liberatore) Biondi, Mary Claire grew up in Jenkintown and remained there her entire life. Proud of her Italian heritage, she carried that part of her identity with her throughout her life. She attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame High School for Girls. After graduation, she began a long and dedicated career as an office assistant in the Acoustic Processing Department at the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) in Johnsville, PA. She served as a civil servant for the Navy until the base closed in 1995—a job she truly loved and took great pride in.

Mary Claire was a single mother who worked tirelessly to provide for her children, LeRoy and Lynn. While her own mother helped care for them during the day, Mary Claire dedicated herself to her work, making sure her family had what they needed. Her resilience, determination, and commitment to her children were defining qualities throughout her life.

She loved all of her grandchildren and took great joy in seeing them grow. Whether they lived nearby or across the world, she found ways to stay connected and make each one feel loved. Holidays were her favorite time, when the house was full, the table was crowded, and family stories flowed as easily as the laughter.

Mary Claire was blessed with six great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy in her later years. She loved hearing about their milestones and how their personalities shine.

She cherished her many friendships, some spanning back to childhood. She kept in touch with former colleagues from NADC and stayed connected with the “ladies” from Strawbridge & Clothier, whose friendship and laughter brightened her days. These relationships were an important and cherished part of her life, as were the ones she later made while working at The Catholic Shop.

Mary Claire’s home — and her life — was always filled with music, most often the voice of Frank Sinatra. She passed that love along to her children and, in turn, her grandchildren. In the weeks leading up to her passing, Sinatra’s voice filled her room, a familiar comfort both to her and to the family gathered around her. It was only fitting that his music continued to play after her passing, a lasting reminder of the joy it brought her. When Sinatra’s mother passed away, she sent him a Mass card and received a thank-you note in return — almost certainly sent to everyone, but she was still delighted to have it and kept it for years. She also got a kick out of the fact that actor Bradley Cooper was from Jenkintown — a small-town connection that always made her smile.

Mary Claire is survived by her children, LeRoy (Denise) and Lynn Mundy Coggin (Gary). Her grandchildren include LeRoy’s children — Christina, Matthew (Anastasiya), Gregory (Michael), and Timothy — and Lynn’s children — Michael (Christina), Alexander (Michael), Samantha, Gabrielle (Ryan), and Blaise. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren she adored: Madison, Alex, Nik, Sofia, Cooper, and Ellis; along with many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Biondi as well as her brothers, James and Michael.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 28th at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Jenkintown. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Afterward, family and friends are invited back to 319 Summit Avenue in Jenkintown for a catered gathering — a special time to be together and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to play a little Sinatra in her honor and think of her with a smile.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Redeemer Health Hospice, 521 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006, or online at www.redeemerhealth.org/giving, in gratitude for the compassionate care they provided.
